Sublight Tier Lists

Community-oriented rankings for Early Access ships and weapons—expect shifts with every balance pass.

Sublight Tier List Hub for EA Meta

Sublight’s Early Access launch (September 15, 2026) already gives captains a dense sandbox: six finished levels, two enemy factions, nine playable ships with alternate loadouts, and more than sixteen weapon types. That breadth is great for theorycrafting—and terrible for “one true meta” claims. This hub explains how we rank options, then points you to the detailed ships tier list and weapons tier list.

These lists are community-oriented Early Access guidance, not an official developer ladder. Balance patches, weekly modifiers, and new content on the roadmap will move hulls and hardpoints between bands. Treat S-tier as “currently strong for learning or pushing,” not as a permanent crown.

Ranking methodology

Every placement weighs four pillars. No single pillar overrides the others when the rest fall apart.

1. Firing arcs

Sublight is not a pure auto-aim survivor. Turrets and hardpoints cover cones. A high DPS weapon that only covers a thin forward arc can lose to a wider, “worse” gun when rebels or aliens wrap your flanks. We reward hulls and weapons that keep coverage honest while you kite, orbit bosses, or rotate for magnet pickups.

2. Clear speed

How fast you delete trash waves, elite packs, and mid-run choke points. Clear speed feeds XP, salvage, and shop timing. Missile and explosive profiles often spike here; piercing lines shine when enemies stack in lanes.

3. Survivability

Armor, mobility tools, defensive passives, and the ability to answer the Hunter flagship that arrives after roughly thirty minutes. A glass cannon that melts sectors one through three but folds to the Hunter is ranked below a slightly slower hull that can outlast the chase.

4. Unlock cost

Meta progress comes from challenges and credits. A ship that is “strong” but buried behind steep challenge gates is ranked separately for learning versus push. Starter battleship comfort and early frigates matter more for day-one captains than a late unlock that needs a finished meta account.

How to use the two child lists

  • Start with the ships tier list if you are choosing a hull and loadout family (battleship starter, missile frigates such as Shortsword, support frigates, and later unlocks).
  • Jump to the weapons tier list when you are comparing autocannons, railguns, chainguns, barrage kits, ship-unique hardpoints, and status-focused tools (Ignite and Cold).
  • Cross-check the ship roster for unlock framing and alternate loadouts, then refine runs with Getting Started and build pages under Guides.

Learning tiers vs push tiers

We call out two lenses on each detailed page:

  • Learning: low friction, forgiving arcs, cheap or free early weapons, and clear feedback when you misplace a turret.
  • Push: high ceiling into late timers, weekly modifiers, and Hunter survival. These picks often demand tighter arc management and specific passives.

A hull can be S for learning and A for push (or the reverse). That split matters more in Early Access than a single letter slapped on a ship name.

Status effects and weekly pressure

Ignite stacks toward five applications with supporting passives; Cold stacks toward twenty before a freeze that enables bonus damage. Status weapons climb our lists when they convert those systems into reliable clear without abandoning arc coverage. Weekly level modifiers can suddenly favor freeze control, explosive autocannons, or piercing chainguns—another reason these tiers will move.

What we will not do

We will not invent exact numerical DPS charts as if they were official, invent ship names the studio has not shown, or pretend Early Access rankings are frozen until 1.0. When patch notes land, re-check this hub and the child pages before you spend challenge progress on a niche unlock.

Pick a list, run a few sectors, and revise your own notes. Sublight rewards captains who understand arcs more than captains who memorize a letter grade.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Sublight questions.

Are these Sublight tiers official?

No. They are Early Access community-oriented guidance based on arcs, clear speed, survivability, and unlock cost. Expect movement after balance patches and roadmap content.

Should I follow ship tiers or weapon tiers first?

Choose a hull family first on the ships list, then solve coverage and damage type on the weapons list. Integrated hardpoints often decide both.

Why do unlock costs affect rankings?

Challenges and credits gate ships, loadouts, and upgrades. A strong late unlock can be push S-tier while remaining a poor day-one recommendation.

How often will this hub change?

After meaningful balance notes, weapon overhauls, or new factions and ships on the Early Access roadmap. Recheck when the Hunter or status rules shift.
